Happy New Year!! Can you believe it’s 2024?
I moved to Virginia in 2004 for college, so I’ve been living here for nearly 20 years now. WOW, that’s crazy…time really does fly!
As you begin this New Year, what are your goals? Have you been considering investing in real estate, but haven’t made the first step? We’re excited you are here and hope to help in your journey!
The first step we made in real estate was education. We found many podcasts, books, and articles helpful in our learning experience. We talked to as many investors as we could find. We proceeded to find our first home with a basement apartment that would be our first rental (aka house hacking). It taught us so much and we still rent that space today.
As we continued down the path of investing in real estate and creating more streams of income, we discovered there are so many paths you can take! It really depends on what you want and your goals. We’ve been involved as passive investors; I’m a realtor; we buy and hold properties; we have been property managers; we syndicate deals with others; and lend money to small businesses.
One of our goals this year is to work LESS and make MORE money this year! Does that sound crazy?
In my teenage years, I had an endless amount of energy & could stay up to all hours of the night doing anything I set my mind to.
In my 20’s this continued, but I had a bachelors & masters degree to help guide me. I didn’t have kids & the world was my oyster. My husband & I worked our butts off at multiple companies & enjoyed great money, travel, fun, & giving back. We started investing…
Now in our late 30’s, we have 3 kids & we’re a little more tired these days. We have more responsibilities & less time. Our priorities have changed & we’re not trying to keep up with the Joneses …
While we need money to live & I certainly enjoy the benefits money brings, I’d rather have more time & control over my schedule. Most people think this means you’ve got to take a pay cut to have more time (& it can)…
But we’re figuring out how to stop trading time for money & make our money work for us. It hasn’t happened overnight & we’re not operating any kind of “get rich quick” scheme, but we’ve educated ourselves & created more streams of income so we can cut back at work.
Looking to do the same?? First off: take the time/money & invest in YOURSELF! There are so many ways to learn (books, podcasts, courses, conferences, people, masterminds, etc). Secondly: let’s connect & chat about ideas on how you can accomplish your goals.
